Unterführung Berliner Straße Wiesbaden
Ausgangslage
Das schnelle Wachstum urbaner Räume ist auch in Wiesbaden deutlich sichtbar. Historische Stadttore erinnern nur noch entfernt an ihre ursprüngliche Funktion als Stadteingang. Die Unterführung Berliner Straße soll als Zugang zur Innenstadt neu interpretiert werden und gleichzeitig das Leitmotiv „Wasser“ der Stadt erlebbar machen.
Konzept
Die Bewegung der Nutzer wird zum zentralen Entwurfsparameter. Die Unterführung wird ausschließlich „aus der Bewegung heraus“ erfahren, sodass das Thema Wasser – als Symbol für Ruhe, Energie und natürliche Bewegung – interaktiv erlebbar wird. Die Geschwindigkeit der Betrachter bestimmt die Wahrnehmung von Ruhe oder Dynamik.
Architekturbeschreibung
Die Gestaltung basiert auf einer statischen Installation aus vertikalen Alu-L-Winkeln, deren Ober- und Unterkanten entlang des Wegverlaufs variieren und eine wellenförmige Bewegung erzeugen. Ruhe und Unruhe des Bildes entstehen allein durch die Bewegung der Nutzer. Die Installation ist auf eine Fahrgeschwindigkeit von 50 km/h abgestimmt, bei höheren Geschwindigkeiten wird sie zunehmend als dynamisch und unruhig wahrgenommen.
Konstruktion
Die vertikalen Alu-L-Winkel (100/40 mm, d=4 mm) sind in Abständen von ca. 200 mm auf einer Unterkonstruktion aus Alu-Quadratprofilen (40 x 40 mm, d=4 mm) montiert. Ober- und Unterkanten variieren entlang des Wegverlaufs, sodass die wellenförmige Kontur sichtbar wird. Die Alu-Elemente sind eloxiert (E6 EV1), die Unterkonstruktion und die Seitenwände innerhalb der Installationskonturen in Yves-Klein-Blau beschichtet. LED-Lichtbänder entlang der Übergänge zur Tunneldecke sorgen für normgerechte Ausleuchtung und unterstützen die visuelle Wirkung der Installation.
Initial Situation
Rapid urban growth is also evident in Wiesbaden. Historical city gates now only vaguely reflect their original function as urban entrances. The Berliner Straße underpass is reinterpreted as a gateway to the city center while making the city’s guiding theme, “water,” perceptible to users.
Concept
User movement is the central design parameter. The underpass is experienced exclusively “in motion,” making the theme of water – as a symbol of calm, energy, and natural movement – interactively tangible. The perception of tranquility or dynamism depends on the speed of the observer.
Architectural Description
The design is based on a static installation of vertical aluminum L-angles, whose top and bottom edges vary along the path to create a wave-like motion. The sense of calm or unrest emerges solely through the movement of users. The installation is calibrated for a travel speed of 50 km/h; at higher speeds, it is perceived as increasingly dynamic and lively.
Construction
Vertical aluminum L-angles (100/40 mm, thickness 4 mm) are spaced approximately 200 mm apart and mounted on a substructure of aluminum square profiles (40 x 40 mm, thickness 4 mm). The top and bottom edges vary along the pathway to create the wave-like contour. The aluminum elements are E6 EV1 anodized, while the substructure and sidewalls within the installation contours are coated in Yves Klein Blue. LED light strips along the transitions to the tunnel ceiling provide standard-compliant illumination and enhance the visual effect of the installation.
