Speedskating-Arena Geisingen
Ausgangslage
Die Speedscating-Arena entstand aus einer privaten Initiative der Familie Uhrig in Geisingen mit dem Ziel, eine hochwertige Inline-Skatingbahn zu realisieren. Im Laufe der Planung entwickelte sich daraus ein europaweit einzigartiges Konzept, das weit über den ursprünglichen Sportgedanken hinausgeht. Das Gelände befindet sich in einer Hochwasserzone innerhalb der Donau-Auenlandschaft, wodurch besondere bauliche Maßnahmen erforderlich wurden.
Konzept
Die Arena ist ein innovatives Landschaftsbauwerk, das durch massive Geländemodellierungen perfekt in die Topografie eingebettet wurde. Die gesamte Anlage – bestehend aus Rennbahn, Tribünen, Innenfeld, Straßenkurs und Infrastruktur – wurde unter Berücksichtigung von Hochwassersicherheit, Auftriebssicherheit und nachhaltiger Energieversorgung geplant. Das Projekt verbindet Sport, Freizeitnutzung und barrierefreie Architektur in einem neuartigen Nutzungskonzept.
Architektur Beschreibung
Wie ein sanft gelandetes Ufo ruht das Gebäude in der Landschaft. Die transluzente Fassade aus Doppelstegplatten scheint über der ringförmigen Erdanlage zu schweben. Das flach gewölbte Dach mit Holzleimbinderkonstruktionüberspannt den gesamten Innenraum. Im Innern erzeugen kräftige Farbakzente in Orange und Magenta ein dynamisches, motivierendes Ambiente – auch bei schlechten Lichtverhältnissen. Die Arena schafft durch ihre prägnante Form eine starke visuelle Präsenz im ländlichen Raum und funktioniert zugleich als Landmark.
Konstruktion
Das 35.000 m² große Gelände wurde durch 50.000 m³ Erdbewegung modelliert. Die Tragstruktur besteht aus einer Kombination von Stahlbau, Rammstützen, Holzleimbindern und einer intelligenten Hüllkonstruktion, die durch Sonnenenergie und Erdwärme die Halle nahezu energieautark temperiert. Die Halle hält ohne konventionelle Heizung Temperaturen von über 10 °C – selbst im Winter. Alle Bereiche der Arena – vom Innenfeld über die Tribünen, Sanitäreinrichtungen, Bistro, Shop, Parkplätze bis hin zur Rennbahn – sind vollständig barrierefrei. Die Bahn gilt als eine der schnellsten Inline-Strecken weltweit und bietet ideale Bedingungen für Training und Wettkampf.

Initial Situation
The speed skating arena was initiated by a private initiative of the Uhrig family in Geisingen with the aim of realizing a high-quality inline skating track. Over the course of the planning process, this evolved into a concept that is unique across Europe and extends far beyond the original sporting intention. The site is located within a flood zone in the Danube floodplain landscape, requiring specific structural measures.
Concept
The arena is an innovative landscape structure that has been seamlessly integrated into the topography through extensive terrain modeling. The entire complex – consisting of the race track, grandstands, infield, road course, and infrastructure – was designed with consideration for flood protection, buoyancy safety, and sustainable energy supply. The project combines sport, leisure use, and barrier-free architecture within a novel usage concept.
Architecture Description
Like a gently landed UFO, the building rests within the landscape. The translucent façade made of multi-wall polycarbonate panels appears to hover above the circular earth structure. The gently curved roof, constructed with glued laminated timber beams, spans the entire interior. Inside, strong color accents in orange and magenta create a dynamic and motivating atmosphere, even under poor lighting conditions. With its distinctive form, the arena establishes a strong visual presence in the rural context while also functioning as a landmark.
Construction
The 35,000 m² site was shaped through 50,000 m³ of earthworks. The structural system consists of a combination of steel construction, driven piles, glued laminated timber beams, and an intelligent building envelope that uses solar energy and geothermal energy to maintain a nearly energy-autonomous indoor climate. The hall maintains temperatures above 10°C without conventional heating, even in winter. All areas of the arena – from the infield and grandstands to sanitary facilities, bistro, shop, parking areas, and the race track – are fully accessible. The track is considered one of the fastest inline skating tracks worldwide and provides ideal conditions for training and competition.
